Booster Vigdis - Equinor awards contract to OneSubsea

For more than 20 years, the Vigdis subsea field has produced oil via the Snorre field. Now the field is getting an extra boost, increasing production by almost 11 million barrels.

Equinor and its partners have decided to invest around NOK 1.4 billion in the Vigdis Boosting Station, which is scheduled to start up in Q1 2021.

- This is an improved oil recovery (IOR) project that includes a multiphase pumping station that will increase production from existing wells. It provides new oil barrels at a very competitive price," says Torger Rød, senior vice president for project development in Equinor.

Awards contract
The contract to supply the pumping system including bottom frame and trawl protection has been awarded to OneSubsea and has a value of approximately NOK 700 million.

The work will begin in December 2018 with engineering in Bergen, while assembly will take place at the company's facility at Horsøy in Askøy Municipality. OneSubsea will work with a number of subcontractors. Among others, Framo Flatøy will manufacture the pump, Luster Mekaniske Industri will manufacture pipes and more contracts will be awarded in the near future. In total, around 500 people will be involved in delivering the Vigdis boosting station.

- Later, a contract will be awarded for the work to be carried out on the Snorre A and B platforms, while marine operations will be carried out under Equinor's framework contracts in the area," says Rød.
